Where does it work - and where should you avoid it?

The leading eddy current separator performs best in three scenarios:

  1. Recycling of secondary metals: separation of aluminum alloys from copper, zinc, brass even with a particle size of 0.3–1.2 mm;
  2. Preparation of raw materials for smelting: removal of non-metallic inclusions from crushed scrap before loading into an induction furnace;
  3. Enrichment of non-ferrous and rare metal ores: especially effective for copper, zinc, lead sulfides in conjunction with flotation.

However, it does not replace magnetic separators for ferromagnetic materials. And it does not solve the problem of dry separation of wet sand with a water content > 8%. We do not recommend it for primary crushing - only after classification on hydrocyclones or vibrating screens. The mistake of “putting the separator first in the line” is common and leads to rapid clogging of the working chamber.

Manufacturers indicate a “maximum capacity of 15 t/h.” But in reality, this figure is achieved only under one condition: material with a moisture content of ≤ 0.5%, a size of 0.5–2.0 mm and a homogeneous composition. In practice, we see a drop to 9–11 t/h when processing ore with variable granule composition.

Key parameters that should be requested from the supplier before signing the contract:

  • Data on energy consumption at load 70%, 90% and 100% - not only “nominal”, but also a graph;
  • Service life of the working chamber made of wear-resistant alloy (at least 18 months when working with quartzite);
  • Availability of a certificate of compliance with GOST R ISO 50001:2017 for energy efficiency;
  • Information on the availability of spare parts: delivery time for alternator brushes, replacement bushings, temperature sensors is no more than 14 days.
