What technical data sheets hide - and why it is important to check not only numbers

One customer from the Krasnoyarsk Territory received a separator with a declared productivity of 120 t/h. In fact - 83 t/h with a solid content above 28%. Cause? The passport indicated data for pulp with 22% solid phases and a temperature of +15 °C. In reality - 31% and +4 °C in winter. The difference in viscosity and magnetic permeability has become critical.

Therefore, when choosing a Chinese magnetic-gravity separator, pay attention not to the maximum in the catalog, but to three parameters:

  1. Working range of pulp moisture— for reliable models it is 18–35%, and not “up to 35%”;
  2. Type of magnetic system— not just a “permanent magnet,” but specifically neodymium-boron-iron (NdFeB) with protection against demagnetization when heated above +80 °C;
  3. Distributor design- must be adjustable in height and angle, with the ability to quickly replace worn elements without complete disassembly.

The first mistake is installation without preliminary analysis of the particle size distribution. The separator is effective in the range of 0.03–1.2 mm. Particles larger than 1.5 mm require crushing; particles smaller than 0.02 mm require preliminary coagulation. Without this, the cracks become clogged and extraction decreases.

The second is ignoring water requirements. Hardness above 7 mmol/l causes salt deposition on magnetic surfaces. The solution is simple: install a fine filter before feeding it into the irrigation system.

The third is the lack of backup power. Even a short-term power failure leads to a reset of the magnetic field and the loss of all material in the work area. Minimum - UPS for 15 minutes of operation.
