China wet drum separator for heavy media recovery is not just equipment. This is the intersection of three requirements: stable separation density, minimal loss of valuable fractions and predictable operation under high load conditions. We have installed such plants at processing plants in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Russian Far East - and each time we have encountered the same problem: standard separators lose efficiency when ore moisture fluctuates above 12% or in the presence of clay impurities. That's when we turned to solutions developed in Shenyang.
Dry separation of heavy media is only possible with ideally dry, homogeneous, free-flowing material. In practice this is not the case. Ore from quarries comes with moisture from 8 to 25%. Clay, sludge, fine particles - all this glues the grains together, blocks channels in magnetic systems and reduces the density of the suspension. A wet drum separator solves this problem physically: water acts as a carrier, not a hindrance. The medium (usually magnetite or hematite in aqueous suspension) creates a density of 1.3 to 3.2 g/cm³. Rock particles with a lower density float. Valuable minerals are deposited on the surface of the drum and removed from its surface into a separate tray.
We tested three models at one ferruginous quartzite processing site: two European and one Chinese -wet drum separator for recovery of heavy mediafrom LONGI Corporation. The difference was evident after 72 hours of use. European installations began to experience an increase in energy consumption by 18%, and concentrate yield decreased by 4.2%. The Chinese one has parameter stability within ±0.8% with the same input data. The reason is the design of the drum: wall thickness 22 mm, reinforced reinforcing mesh made of 316L stainless steel, inclination angle 12° and rotation speed 18–24 rpm - selected not from a catalog, but from 17 field tests in Fushun.
Some customers immediately reject offers marked “China”, considering them a compromise on quality. But in the case of equipment for heavy environments, this approach leads to errors. LONGI Corporation is not an assembly plant. It produces everything from magnetic systems to drum housings, from suspension pumps to pneumatic controls. The Fushun plant occupies 140,000 m² and employs more than 1,200 people, and over 60% are engineers with higher education. 4,000 units of equipment are produced annually. This is not a “plant in Shenzhen”, but an industrial complex with its own foundry, heat treatment shop and testing laboratory in accordance with GOST R ISO/IEC 17025.
A specific example: when testing the LJ-WDS-1200×3000 separator at a mine in the Chelyabinsk region, it turned out that the standard suspension flow control valve cannot withstand pressures above 0.35 MPa. A week later it started leaking. We contacted LONGI and within 9 days received a modified assembly with a reinforced CuNiFe alloy seat and Viton® fluoroelastomer seal. Such a reaction is possible only if you have your own design bureau and production.
The choice of wet drum separator does not depend on diameter or length, but on three parameters: the density of the original ore, the -0.5 mm class size and the clay content of the slurry. If the clay is above 15%, a preliminary disintegrator is needed. If the -0.074 mm class exceeds 40%, two-stage separation is required. Simply increasing the diameter of the drum will not help: the centrifugal force will increase, and valuable particles will be thrown out along with the tailings.
Don't expect the separator to solve your raw material preparation problems. It does not replace screening, does not compensate for the lack of disintegration, and does not correct errors in the composition of the heavy medium. Its task is to clearly, repeatably and without loss separate what is already ready for separation.
A wet drum separator for the recovery of heavy media is the main link in technological lines for the enrichment of iron, manganese, tungsten and titanium ores. We saw it in work at factories for processing man-made waste: there the density of the material varies greatly, but the stability of the concentrate yield remains at the level of 89–91%. Particularly appreciated is the system’s ability to maintain set parameters when the water temperature changes from +5 °C to +35 °C - without reconfiguration.
On the websiteljmagnet.ruTechnical data sheets, connection diagrams, hydraulic resistance calculations and recommendations for integration into existing lines are available. There are also real photos of installation, videos of commissioning and test reports at Russian facilities. No general phrases. Only numbers, conditions, restrictions and solutions.
China wet drum separator for recovery of heavy media is not an import substitution. These are choices based on data, not stereotypes. He works where others refuse. And it continues to work - when everyone else is already asking to stop for repairs.
