China lifting magnet/electromagnet

A Chinese lifting magnet is not exotic, but an everyday tool in a scrap metal warehouse in Yekaterinburg, on a conveyor belt of a foundry in Chelyabinsk, in a recycling workshop near Kazan. We've tested over 17 models over the past five years - from compact 300kg electromagnets to industrial lifting systems up to 25 tonnes. And each time the main question sounded the same: “Why Chinese?” The answer is simple: technical maturity, clear standardization and real adaptation to Russian operating conditions.

What makes a Chinese lifting magnet reliable - and not just cheap?

Many people think: “China means poor insulation, overheating, unpredictable lifting of the load.” We have encountered this - but only in cases where the customer ignored three basic rules: mains voltage (±5% of 380 V), temperature range (−25...+40 °C), and switching frequency (no more than 6 cycles per hour for standard series). Modernelectromagnets from China, complying with GOST R IEC and ISO 12100, operate without failure even at −30 °C - provided that the coil is filled with class F epoxy and a temperature sensor with automatic shutdown is installed.

In practice, we see: resistance to vibration and moisture is achieved not by “adding a protective housing”, but by designing from scratch - with double sealing of joints, in-depth impregnation of the winding and an aluminum-magnesium alloy housing instead of cast iron. This reduces weight by 22%, speeds up cooling and eliminates corrosion in high humidity shop environments.

How to choose - not by price, but by load and cycle

The most common mistake when purchasingChina lifting magnet: reference for “nominal holding force”. But in reality, what matters is not how much it *can* hold on a perfectly smooth surface, but how much it can hold on rusty, rough, partially magnetized scrap. Here's how we check:

  • Actual holding force— measured on samples with a thickness of 10–25 mm, with a gap of up to 1.5 mm and a roughness coefficient Ra ≥ 6.3;
  • On/off time— for high-quality models, no more than 0.8 s to turn on and 1.2 s to reset (if there is forced air purging);
  • Switching resource— at least 100,000 cycles without replacing the contactor or control unit.

If your workshop loads 12 tons of scrap per hour, you need an electromagnet with a power reserve of at least 30%. Otherwise, the winding will overheat after 3–4 hours of continuous operation. We recorded this at three enterprises in 2023 - all three cases were resolved by replacing them with a model with an increased cross-section of copper wire and a cooling radiator.

Who's behind the technology - and why it's important

Not all Chinese products are created equal. For 15 years we have worked with seven manufacturers. Only two of them provided complete test reports - including heat maps of the windings, magnetic flux data at different voltages and shock load results. One of them is Shenyang Scientific Electromagnetic Company LONJI LLC, founded in 1993.

Their production site in Fushun is not an assembly shop, but an integrated complex: an in-house materials science laboratory, magnetic testing stations (using Hirst and Helmholtz sensors), and a testing facility with hydraulic presses up to 50 tons. Their line produces 4,000 pieces of equipment per year - from compact electromagnets of the LJ-MC-150 series to heavy lifting systems LJ-HL-25T with a double emergency shutdown system. More than 60% of engineers have specialized higher education - and this is noticeable: the documentation does not contain “universal” connection diagrams, but there are specific recommendations for Russian TP, types of cranes and categories of premises (including explosion-proof versions Ex d IIB T4).

What to do after the purchase - so as not to waste money on repairs

Chineseelectromagnetdoes not require “special handling”, but requires strict adherence to three operating rules:

  1. Never turn on if there are metal particles between the magnet and the load - this causes local overheating and insulation breakdown;
  2. After each load release, pause for at least 8 seconds, even if it seems that “the magnet has already cooled down”;
  3. Once a quarter, check the contact connections on the terminal block: oxidation of copper leads to an increase in resistance, overheating and failure of the control unit.

The website ljmagnet.ru offers instruction manuals in Russian, interactive calculators for selecting a model by weight and type of load, as well as video guides for diagnosing common errors - for example, “the magnet does not release the load” or “weak retention at +35 °C.”

China lifting magnet today is not a compromise between cost and reliability. These are technologically proven choices based on data, not rumors. The key is to work with a manufacturer who knows how your shop operates. Not someone who just ships a container.
