No. Downtime for a day due to replacement of a unit means tens, if not hundreds of thousands of lost profits. The configuration of the magnetic system, the drum material, the pulp feed rate, even the temperature of the medium. A mistake in one thing - and instead of a concentrate you get dumps with a decent content of a valuable component. The losses are quiet, but colossal.
I remember an incident at one of the Ural plants. The old separator worked, but as the iron content in the main ore fell, its efficiency dropped sharply. We started thinking about a replacement. I had a negative experience with a European supplier of filter presses. The equipment is good, but when an urgent replacement of the membrane was required, it turned out that the nearest spare parts warehouse was in Germany, and the delivery time was 6 weeks. Production has stopped. After that, when choosing, I always ask whether the supplier has a service center or at least a warehouse for the most consumables in the CIS region. Having a full cycle from development to service in an area close to the consumer is no longer a luxury, but a necessity for any serious player in the marketmining equipment.

We are not talking about mandatory robotization, but about a built-in diagnostic system, vibration and temperature sensors that make it possible to predict failure rather than deal with its consequences.
The direction in which the industry is moving is the creation of complexes. Not just a single separator or crusher, but an interconnected line where units exchange data to optimize the entire process. So that, for example, the separator automatically adjusts the strength of the magnetic field to changes in the composition of the pulp coming from the crusher. This requires deep integration of engineering departments that develop different types of machines. Companies that are initially focused on the entire clusterequipment for the mining industry, and not on single products, have an advantage here.
I look at the portfolio of products from the mentioned corporation - they cover different stages: from crushing and grinding to magnetic separation and dehydration. This allows them, in theory, to think systematically and offer more balanced solutions, where all components are optimally matched to each other. So far this is more of a potential, but this is the trend.
So what am I talking about? Yes, that the choice of equipment is always a compromise between price, reliability, efficiency and service. There is no such thing as a perfect option. But you can minimize risks by working with manufacturers who have come a long way, have their own production facilities, a staff of competent engineers and, what is critically important, understand the technological chain not from textbooks, but from real requests from quarries and plants.
Mining and metallurgical equipment is the lifeblood and nervous system of these industries. And its quality is determined not at the moment of signing the acceptance certificate, but after years of uninterrupted operation under conditions of constant load, dust, vibration and human factor. Therefore, today it is not just a hardware seller that is valuable, but a technology partner who is capable of dialogue and bears responsibility for its products throughout its entire life cycle. And such partners, as a rule, grow out of companies for which this is their main and long-standing business, like those that have been working on the market for three decades.
