Choosing the right oneChina port- not a formality. This is a decision that affects the delivery time of equipment by 12–28 days, the cost of logistics by up to 18%, and the risk of cargo loss due to overload or delay at the terminal. We have been working with Chinese ports since 2005: from the first containers with electromagnetic separators to today's full-cycle projects - from production in Fushun to customs clearance in St. Petersburg. During this time, we saw clients lose $47,000 due to choosing a “cheap” terminal in Ningbo - without direct lines to Russia and with a three-week waiting list for loading.
Many people think: “The main thing is to have a seaport in China.” But this is like choosing an airport by name without checking whether there are flights to your city. We fix three parameters - and if at least one does not correspond, we refuse the terminal even with a 12% discount on freight.
Some people advise “always take Shanghai - it’s the largest.” But we abandoned Shanghai in 2021 for deliveries to the Ural region: the average waiting time for a container there is 11 days. Instead we switched to Shenzhen. Why?
Firstly, Shenzhen has direct flights to Novorossiysk (every Friday, 14 days on the way). Secondly, there is a customs post there with a Russian-Chinese bilateral protocol - documents are accepted in Russian and Chinese simultaneously. Thirdly, the logistics park in the Yantian region allows you to store equipment for up to 90 days without payment - critical in case of production failures.
Ningbo is often proposed as an "alternative to Shanghai". But it has a weak infrastructure for heavy loads: the maximum load on the site is 12 t/m². Our separators require 18.3 t/m². One such case - and the frame is deformed, the batch is rejected, disputes with the buyer.
No need to go to China. Three steps are enough:
In 2022, the client ordered 14 sets of LONGI mining equipment for a mine in Kuzbass. The original plan is via Tianjin port: 32 days by sea + 10 days by land transportation. We proposed an alternative: Qingdao port → direct flight to Kaliningrad → railway to Kemerovo. Duration: 21 days. The price difference is +6.8%. But the client received the equipment by the beginning of the month, avoided penalties for downtime and maintained the site modernization schedule.
The key here is not “port in China”, butChina port, built into the logistics chain, taking into account the destination, weight, dimensions and storage requirements. We don't choose the port. We build a route - and the port becomes its integral, proven element.
If you are importing equipment that requires precise coordination, protection from moisture and high load capacity, start not with a request for a control package, but with an analysis of the terminal. Because reliability of delivery begins not in the workshop, but at the pier.
