In this case, small, flat or oxidized pieces of aluminum do not receive sufficient repulsion momentum.

An eccentric cage corrects this physically. The axis of rotation of the rotor is shifted relative to the center of the drum by 12–18 mm. This creates a variable radial component of the magnetic field. The particle enters a zone of first weak, then increasing impact - as if it is being “accelerated” before being rejected. We measured the kickback force on 3x3 mm samples: at the same rotation speed (2800 rpm), the eccentric model produced 37% more impulse than the axial one.

Key technical parameters that cannot be ignored when choosing:

  • Rotor speed: from 2400 to 3200 rpm - regulated by a frequency converter, not stepwise;
  • Maximum engine power: not less than 30 kW for lines over 10 t/h;
  • Angle of inclination of working belt: from 5° to 15°, with mechanical adjustment - without this it is impossible to adapt the separator to wet or dusty scrap;
  • Rotor cooling system: forced air or water - overheating reduces induction by 15–20% after 45 minutes of continuous operation.

Where are the most common mistakes made during implementation?

Some people think: “If the separator is in China, it is automatically cheap.” This is a dangerous misconception. More than 40% of budget models entering the Russian market use rotors with uncalibrated neodymium magnets and a simplified mounting system. After 6 months of operation, we recorded a drop in induction by 22%, and after a year - play in the bearing units up to 0.8 mm. Consequences: vibration, noise above 85 dB, displacement of the discharge trajectory.

Another mistake is ignoring the preparation of the material. The eccentric separator does not replace pre-sorting. It requires: particle size 5–80 mm, humidity not higher than 8%, absence of large iron inclusions (more than 50 g). We observed a case where an M12 bolt got into the tape - it pierced the rotor protective casing and disabled two magnetic sections. The provided overload protection system worked only after 1.7 seconds - this was enough for critical damage.

The third typical problem is installation without calculations. The separator creates a reactive torque. If the base is not reinforced with grade 10.9 anchor bolts and leveled to within ±0.2 mm/m, resonance will occur at a frequency of 28–32 Hz. This destroys the bearings in 3–4 months.
